![]() ![]() The Challenger tank simulated in SB is the "desertized" variant equipped with the DL2E armour configuration ("Dorchester Level 2 E" with nose-mounted ROMOR-A ERA tiles and ROMOR-C ballistic side skirts) this gives the Challenger 2 better all around protection against most HEAT warheads. Instead it has the propellant charges stored in water-filled containers this reduces the risk of the rounds catching fire if the charge bins are struck. It does not have compartmentalized ammunition stowage, like the Abrams or Leopard. The Challenger 2 also has some features to reduce post penetration damage. It is generally considered the best protected tank in the world, because of its heavily sloped front turret and Dorchester armour. The Challenger 2 is the upgraded variant of the Challenger 1 purchased by the British in 1998.
